Debra graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Arts in 1987 and then went on to law school at the University of Alberta, graduating in 1990. She was called to the Alberta Bar in 1991 and has been practicing in Calgary ever since.
Debra had run her own practice for approximately 24 years and has joined Jennings Family Law in 2019 because she believes they have the same philosophy when practicing law. Although she has practiced in many areas of law, family law has always been her predominate interest and she continues to do everything she can to assist her clients in moving through difficult personal times. Debra continues to attend to her education throughout her practice. She has been a volunteer with Calgary Legal Guidance, continues to work through Legal Aid Alberta and has volunteered at the University of Calgary Law School.
Debra has always been a strong advocate of families resolving their issues outside of the court process and continues to work towards agreements whenever possible. She is a trained mediator and arbitrator and has worked with Justice Services as a Dispute Resolution Officer since 2003, as well as in private mediation/arbitrations. Debra has also practiced at all three levels of the Alberta courts and continues to attend court whenever there is no other avenue available.
Born and raised in Calgary, Debra is married with two daughters. She has been very involved in the community. sitting on everything from parent council for the children’s school, to the board of a dance company. Debra has been a member of the Kinette Club of Calgary, has volunteered with the South Calgary Rotary Club, the Kinsmen Club of Calgary, Girls Hockey Calgary, McDonald Wilson Dance Academy and numerous other charities and political campaigns. She and her husband continue to instill
in their children the value of being part of the community and volunteerism.
