Joseph Mercado is a family lawyer who was called to the Alberta Bar in 2023. Joseph graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 2022 and, prior to law school, graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science in Statistics (with Distinction) in 2019.
Joseph completed his articles at a distinguished law boutique specializing in divorce and family law. As part of his articles, he gained exposure to a wide range of family law cases involving child support, spousal support, parenting, and property division matters. In addition, he appeared at Urgent Matters Chambers to obtain a Mareva Injunction against bank and cryptocurrency assets, drafted pleadings associated with a forced sale of a family business through a successful application under the Arbitration Act, and shadowed and assisted counsel on a Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction matter.
Prior to entering the legal profession, Joseph demonstrated his passion for family law through his law school coursework. During law school, he represented the University of Toronto at the National Walsh Family Law Moot Competition, completed a child-welfare research-related practicum, and took courses in Family Law and Advanced Family Law.
Joseph understands that family law cases are highly personal and he approaches each case with the goal of providing clients, free from judgment, the knowledge needed to navigate their family law matters.
Outside of law, Joseph spends his free time taking photos of his dog, working out, brunching with friends, reading classical literature and east asian philosophy, and watching improv in its various forms.
